Farewell Tyson

Writer's picture: Greg WoodGreg Wood

It became clear that today would be the right day to make an appointment for home euthanasia for Tyson. I reached out to Teresa, who had headed down to Manhattan for a meeting, and who turned around and came right back up to be there for the appointment.

It was supremely peaceful and loving, and took place right in our living room, where he was surrounded by his pack, and given loving caresses and goodbyes by his people.

The farewell I wrote on FB:

Tyson, We had a long, beautiful journey together. During certain moments, feeling that yours were the only eyes in the world witnessing me back, it sustained me. You taught me more about love and responsibility than any other person or experience, ever. Anyone that met you immediately recognized your sweet, giving soul, by your expressive face, and your fearlessly open friendliness. That I got to experience these every day for 12 years was a wonderful gift. You dealt with heart failure for long enough, and I thank you for letting me know for sure that the time was right. Nobody could ask for a more peaceful goodbye than to be surrounded by family at home. I will always carry you, and your example, with me. Love you, pal - Your Big Dumb Dad
